Both of us have been big 311 fans for years so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to honor them with a post (and a toast) on their holiday, 311 Day. Melding together a plethora of genres (rock, reggae, funk, metal, rap, jazz and more), they have a unique sound and appeal to a variety of listeners. 311 has enjoyed mainstream success while also having received critical acclaim in the alt rock arena.
This is their 25th year of band-hood and their (11th) new album dropped TODAY! We gave it a quick listen and it seems to deliver that solid 311 sound we love – witty lyrics, great vocals, guitar work, rocking instrumentals, stellar syncopation to name a few – and a good mix of chill tunes and energized, heavier tracks. We can’t wait to thoroughly delve in and put it on start to finish. Hopefully we’ll be able to catch them live sometime soon as well. They did just announce a show in Columbus at the LC on 7/14! I (Amanda) had the pleasure of seeing them in June 2008 here in the beautiful CLE and it was a fantastic concert.
Here is a little 311 playlist of old, new, chill and forceful songs that we put together for our holiday toast of Champagne cocktails. Please enjoy:
Champagne Cocktail Recipe:
- Grab a martini glass or champagne flute
- Add 4 parts chilled champagne
- Add 1 part St. Germain
- Garnish with as many fresh raspberries as you desire (and, of course, the 311 grooves)
To our fellow 311 fans our there, what’s your favorite album or song?
